Bulbs are one of my favorite types of flower. They produce some of the most beautiful flowers I know of, and they are simple to plant. When bulbs are planted make sure to plant in nice loose soil so the bulb can come out easier. The hole you dig should be at least at a depth of three to four times the bulbs size. You won’t need to plant them anymore because they will come back every year - and just as beautiful. Remember that Fall is the time for planting bulbs that bloom during the spring.

You should choose the bulbs you are going to use in perfect condition. Make sure there are no holes or the outer covering isn’t smashed or they will not last as long or just won’t grow. Remember that the larger bulb you get the bigger the flower so choose a nice big one. You can find bulbs at any gardening supply or garden tool store nearby or for hard to find bulbs check with some reputable mail orders and such.

There are also many varieties of bulb food, which can be used to give a planted bulb some extra nutrition to make them more big and healthy. You can also put a little sand or extra sediment at the bottom of the hole to help the roots grow and improve drainage. There is a special trick when the bulb is done blooming. You should let the green leaves and stems dry out and wilt away so you can save nutrients in the bulb. Don’t cut them or take them off or nutrients won’t go back into the bulb for next year. I have heard some bulbs can last over 20 years before dying if taken care of right.

Bulbs are one of my favorite parts of my garden, so don’t forget them in yours. Bulbs provide many textures and colors to match with the surroundings. The only work you really have to do with them is weed them, for the bulb will get choked or die if too many weeds get around them.
